Cookie policy

No cookies are currently set for analytics or advertising — reach measurement runs cookieless. What is stored, and how to control cookies, is set out here.

In short: on an ordinary visit this website sets no cookies — neither for analytics nor for advertising. Reach is measured with Google Analytics 4 in cookieless mode: without your consent, no analytics cookies are set and no identifiers are stored on your device. The only thing stored is a small, technically necessary entry in your browser's local storage recording whether you dismissed the notice about the other available language. It carries no identifier and is never transmitted.

What a cookie is — and what local storage is

A cookie is a small text file a website places in your browser, and which is sent back with every subsequent request. Local storage is a second, similar place to keep something — with one important difference: it is NOT sent to a server automatically. An entry in local storage stays on your device until you delete it. Legally, § 25 TDDDG treats both cases the same in principle unless the storage is strictly necessary, which is why the one case that occurs here is named explicitly below.

What this website currently stores

Language notice dismissed — a yes/no entry in local storage so the notice about the other language version does not come back after you close it. It is strictly necessary for the function you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG), carries no identifier, permits no inference about you, and is not transmitted.
The gr_int flag — but only if you deliberately open a page with ?internal=1 appended. An ordinary visit never writes it. What it is and what it does is set out below under “Excluding our own visits”.
Nothing else. No analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels, no external fonts — the fonts are served from this server. The only external script is the Google Analytics 4 measurement tag; it runs through Google Consent Mode v2 with every storage signal denied by default, and Google’s tag therefore sets no cookies and places no identifiers on your device (more in the next section and in the privacy policy).

The calculators do not store your inputs — not even locally. Reload the page and the initial values are back. That is deliberate: details from a fine notice should not be left lying around in a browser.

Reach measurement without cookies

The reach of this website is measured with Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) — in cookieless mode: every storage signal in Google Consent Mode v2 defaults to denied — for every visitor, in every country, with no regional exception. Without consent, Google’s tag sets no analytics cookies and stores or reads no identifiers on your device; only cookieless, aggregated pings are measured. The legal basis for that measurement is the legitimate interest in reach-limited, cookie-free measurement under art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; because nothing about you is stored on or read from your device on an ordinary visit, § 25 TDDDG is not engaged. A read does take place, and it is named rather than passed over: the gr_int flag described below, a single switch rather than an identifier, which exists in a browser only if the reader put it there. There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking. Should analytics or advertising cookies ever be used, that would happen only after your consent (art. 6(1)(a) GDPR together with § 25(1) TDDDG); until you decide, nothing would be set and nothing personalised. Refusing would have no effect on the calculators — they run entirely on your device and need no cookies.

Cookie table: as soon as cookies are actually set, a table will appear here with the name, provider, purpose, lifetime and legal basis of each one. While nothing is set, such a table would be a claim about something that does not exist.

Excluding our own visits

One exception, named here rather than passed over in silence: on every page view the measurement code checks whether the gr_int flag is present in your browser. That is our own exclusion for internal visits, so that our test traffic does not end up in the figures. It is written only when a page is opened with ?internal=1 appended — as a cookie with a lifetime of one year, and additionally in local storage. Without that, nothing is written, and nothing on this site links to it. It holds a single flag and nothing about you. You delete it by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

How to control cookies

Independently of this website you can view, delete individually or entirely, and block cookies in your browser settings at any time. You can also clear local storage there; the language notice will then reappear. If you block cookies completely, the calculators on this site work exactly as before.
